The 2010 Retriever Championship was held on the Sandringham Estate
by gracious permission of Her Majesty The Queen.
The Stewart of the Beat David Clark and his team did an almost impossible
task of holding game in the frozen sugar beet fields. While there was a
steady flow of game the bitter cold weather had an adverse effect on
scenting conditions.
Fifty four handlers and their dogs started the first day under the watchful
eyes of judges Ian Openshaw, Tess Lawrence, Roger Tozer and Darren Hales.
Twenty nine dogs were called forward for the second day; this was reduced to
thirteen for the third day. The final day’s trialling was on ground at Wolferton.
The judges stretched the dogs with long cross retrieves, testing fully their marking
and hunting abilities. Nine dogs were required to sit at the final drive.
Running time 229 mins.
Filmed and produced by Paul French Video with commentary by Dr Gareth Davies.
